You are most likely the kind of person who wants to seize the day, and when it comes to a perfect summer day you aren't going to pass up the opportunity for a great family outing. You need to get the food ready and gather your picnic gear, but which things should you pack?

It's easy to decide what food to take on your picnic. After all, fried chicken, deviled eggs, and macaroni salad are all common picnic fare that everyone loves. It isn't so easy to figure out what types of things you need to complete your fabulous luncheon.

Things you should pack

Don't worry, packing the things you need is not nearly as difficult as it seems. All you need to do is go with the basic picnic ware and the rest will just fall into place. There are a few picnic staples that you just can't do without.

Picnic basket: First and foremost you are going to need a nice large picnic basket. You can choose the classic wicker basket that has a latching lid or you can go for the even larger picnic hamper. You can even buy baskets that have all the gear you need to make your day out superb. There is another option for anyone who is planning on riding bikes, horses, or walking the wilderness trails. For those of you who are on the move you might be interested in an amazing picnic backpack. They come fully equipped with everything you need for a great day out.

Blanket: No matter where you are going you will need to pack a blanket or table cloth to spread out on the ground. This will protect you and your food from any unnecessary dust. No matter what you take along just be certain that it isn't dirty.

Dining gear: Of course a picnic would never be complete without the bare necessities. Cups, plates, and flatware are all to be included with the rest of the picnic gear. If you don't relish the idea of having a mess to clean up and having to pack away dirty dishes then go for the paper dinner ware. It will free up your time for more important things such as playing a game with the family.

Odds and Ends: When you go on your picnic you don't want to forget the little things like salt and pepper or napkins and paper towels. All of these things serve to give your family that added comfort they are accustomed to at home.

A day out with the family will probably be something that you have planned on all week, and you want it to go smoothly. Packing up most of your items the night before will make for an easy morning the day of the picnic. All you will have to do then is take it easy and enjoy the day.
