4th of July celebrations are a time to spend with family and friends to celebrate being American. Many people enjoy letting off their own fireworks on the 4th of July celebrations. Although safe in the right hands, fireworks can indeed be incredibly dangerous if handled incorrectly or by intoxicated people.

Let's go over some very important 4th of July fireworks safety tips to insure the safety of you and your family this 4th of July.

1. Follow fireworks instructions - all fireworks come with instructions so make sure you stick to them to the T.
2. Only release fireworks in a safe, clear area. Make sure there are no people or animals close by.
3. Only buy from a legitimate source. Illegally fireworks can be dangerous and may explode unexpectedly.
4. Never allow children near fireworks. Children should not operate fireworks under any circumstances.
5. Light only one firework at one time and never throw fireworks in the direction of people, animals or buildings.
6. If a firework malfunctions, do not try to relight it. Dispose of it safely.
7. Keep water and a fire extinguisher nearby in case of emergencies.
8. Never operate fireworks while under the influence of alcohol
